Tong Cui, owner, made his solo debut at the age of 12 playing the Haydn oboe concerto with the Chinese National Youth Orchestra. At 14, he toured Europe twice as the principal oboist with orchestras. The following year, Tong was invited by the National Broadcast Association of China to record the Mozart Oboe Quartet. He was a student of James Caldwell at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where he appeared as soloist with the Oberlin Orchestra and received the Artistry in Oboe Performance Award.
During his studies with Bert Lucarelli at The Hartt School. Tong has won top prizes in numerous competitions. Including the prestigious International Double Reed Society’s 1997 Fernand Gillet International Oboe Competition, 1998 Heida Hermann International Young Artists Competition and the 1999 Olga Koussevitzky Woodwinds Competition in New York City. He has appeared as a soloist on Radio China, WGBH Boston, and music festivals such as The Newport and Mount Gretna. As a long time member of The United Schutzhund Clubs of America. In his spare time, Tong does helper and decoy works at a local Schutzhund club, trainning police and sports dogs.
